Thank Goodness The Elections Are Over!

Posted in Uncategorized on November 26, 2008 by jwadehannon

I have never felt such relief that an election cycle is over!

Mind you, not one person i voted for won, but i am glad that it is all over.

While i acknowledge that the election of Barack Obama is historic- he is the first person that has ancectors from an area of the world other than Europe elected to the office of President. That is significant, especially given that the US is a deeply racist country.

I also am aware that many people supported him because they believe that he will bring about significant change to the US, but, at the risk of busting bubbles, i don’t think that that will happen. To get elected he had to pander to the center and the right (inside and outside of the “Democratic” Party). All on has to do to is look at the people he has announced that will be part of his administration. None of them are close to “liberal” even, much less “leftist”!

Obama has talked a good talk. Now let’s see if he walks the walk.

Snow is not pretty

For anyone who thinks snow is “pretty” it is obvious that she/he has never had to blow and shovel the snow off of sidewalks and a driveway!

Business as Usual

For any of my democratic friends, i hope that by now you see that Obama intents to run the country in the “business as usual” mode (or, as a friend said yesterday “Clinton again”).

It is indeed sad to see this all happening.

I mourn for the dreams and hopes that are dying daily of those who were tricked into thinking Obama represented “real change.”

Capitalism Still Trying to Trick People….

Today is “Black Friday” the day after Turkey Day when consumers are supposed to be whipped up into a shopping frenzy to “celebrate” Christmas (one of the major holidays set aside to celebrate consumerism, social falseness and insincerity).

Students in one of my classes related stories about waiting for hours on previous “Black Fridays” to buy items for themselves or others. I shared that the only time i could ever waiting in line to buy something was rock concert tickets.

But, one has to wonder what sort of society we live in when people get all worked up over all these inauthentic events (unless one accepts that the people of the US & A are superficial and stupid- which i do not.) The media empire is so vast that it is extremely hard to counter the propaganda it spews out. At times it does, indeed, seem hopeless- but i refuse to succumb to hopelessness and dispair (except in my personal life, of course). (Just kidding [somewhat] about the personal life bit. I am going through a very rough patch for the past month or so.)

I am not against working people buying things. There are items we need to survive and others that help to improve the quality of our lives. As Big Bill Haywood once said “nothing is too good for the working class!” to which i heartily agree.

Many of us who work for a living get very discouraged from time-to-time. Often it is related to not having enough money. Often it is about trying to retain some small shred of dignity in the face of bosses who treat us worse than they treat their dogs. Often it is trying to make sense of life.

I remain your humble servant ready to stand up to injustice when needed!

Happy Genocide Day Tomorrow!

Posted in Uncategorized on November 26, 2008 by jwadehannon

Well, boys & girls, tomorrow we here in the US & A celebrate the nearly successful genocide of the original inhabitants of what is now the US &A.

Many people who are descendants of the original inhabitants are like me- mostly of European descent, but partly Native (and, by-and-large, look European). Where i live in the US &A when one a male has long hair (as i do) people often assume that he is Indian.

So, for my fellow citizens of the US & A, tomorrow when you are gorging yourself with cooked turkey flesh, potatoes, stuffing, pumpkin pie, etc please take the time to think about all of my ancestors who died so you could live here. Also think of the other Nations (“tribes”) who have dead ancestors. And lastly, think of all the Nations who where totally killed off through active methods (shooting, etc.) and passive methods (disease, loss of food sources, and so.

There is the blood of millions of Natives in your food (many of these foods where also native to this land).

Happy Holiday!!
