Capitalism Still Trying to Trick People….
Today is “Black Friday” the day after Turkey Day when consumers are supposed to be whipped up into a shopping frenzy to “celebrate” Christmas (one of the major holidays set aside to celebrate consumerism, social falseness and insincerity).
Students in one of my classes related stories about waiting for hours on previous “Black Fridays” to buy items for themselves or others. I shared that the only time i could ever waiting in line to buy something was rock concert tickets.
But, one has to wonder what sort of society we live in when people get all worked up over all these inauthentic events (unless one accepts that the people of the US & A are superficial and stupid- which i do not.) The media empire is so vast that it is extremely hard to counter the propaganda it spews out. At times it does, indeed, seem hopeless- but i refuse to succumb to hopelessness and dispair (except in my personal life, of course). (Just kidding [somewhat] about the personal life bit. I am going through a very rough patch for the past month or so.)
I am not against working people buying things. There are items we need to survive and others that help to improve the quality of our lives. As Big Bill Haywood once said “nothing is too good for the working class!” to which i heartily agree.
Many of us who work for a living get very discouraged from time-to-time. Often it is related to not having enough money. Often it is about trying to retain some small shred of dignity in the face of bosses who treat us worse than they treat their dogs. Often it is trying to make sense of life.
I remain your humble servant ready to stand up to injustice when needed!
